Lane Level Systems

In any toll system, from high-speed AET to legacy gated lanes, the sensors in and around the toll lane form the basis of every transaction.  The proper selection and installation of in-lane devices can significantly affect revenue leakage.  TTI’s consultants are experts in this domain.  Many of our consultants have backgrounds in toll system integration, or have worked closely with equipment vendors and toll system integrators and have a thorough understanding of the hardware and software involved in lane-level systems.

We have assisted numerous agencies in specifying, evaluating, and upgrading tolling equipment for new and existing lanes.  We have direct, hands-on experience with the leading technologies in AVI, vehicle detection and classification, image capture, and license plate recognition.  We work closely with numerous technology vendors, and have been instrumental in evaluating and certifying tolling equipment for compatibility with national interoperability standards.

We have assisted numerous agencies in specifying, evaluating, and upgrading tolling equipment for new and existing lanes.

One recent example of our close work with toll system hardware was the evaluation and selection of a new VES and ALPR system for one of our customer agency's ORT systems.  To guarantee the most realistic and relevant evaluation, we conducted a comprehensive comparison among six different vendors’ systems at one of the client’s production toll zones.  We coordinated with the agency and the system vendors, assisted the vendors with the camera installations, and developed software to interface the cameras and ALPR with the toll system.  The evaluations culminated in the selection of a new system, and the upgrade has led to a significant improvement in violation revenue collection, as well as decreased operating costs and higher reliability.
