ORT

Though recently eclipsed by discussions of AET, Open Road Tolling (ORT) still has its place in the toll agency's toolbox. For those agencies for whom AET is not a viable option, ORT provides a means of significantly improving toll plaza throughput and safety.

ORT requires a different approach to processing vehicles since, in addition to dealing with much higher vehicle speeds, traffic in an ORT setting can move laterally across travel lanes as well as in the direction of traffic normally seen in a traditional toll lane. Special considerations need to be applied to all three major sensor areas - AVI, AVC and VES - to ensure accurate vehicle processing in an ORT setting.

TTI staff have extensive experience with ORT including requirements development, design, and testing, as well as actual implementation of ORT solutions.
